About NLBJJA

The association

A family that descends from the same Martial Arts lineage and shares one complete teaching platform.

Why we exist

One language, worldwide

The Next Level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association was developed with the intent of creating a multi-layered, one-language communication platform between students around the world and founder Tony Eduardo Hoerhann.

This platform compiles years of technical knowledge and, most importantly, lays out the proven teaching methods used by Tony and by his mentors Rilion, Renzo and Ralph Gracie, as well as the legendary Royce Gracie.

Our instructors keep their own academies and brand identities, and use our curricular methodology to develop both student and instructor capabilities alike.

Jiu-Jitsu at Next Level

Rooted in self-defense

Jiu-Jitsu is taught as a martial art not only in the technical aspect but in the tactical and mental aspects as well. Despite the extraordinary evolution of Jiu-Jitsu in recent years, we never forget its origins: the core of our instruction will always be self-defense, as per the tradition of the Gracie family.

We also encourage and support students who want to challenge themselves in competition and learn advanced or specialized game techniques. Our goal is to bring people from all over the world — different cultures, ages, genders and physical abilities — and better prepare them for the adversities of life with a holistic approach to Jiu-Jitsu.

Teaching & learning

A methodology that earns its belts

Drawing from the vast multi-disciplinary teaching experience of our founder, NLBJJA focuses on concise, objective and direct ways of sharing knowledge. Our curriculum guides the student's development through the ranks with a unique methodology based on three key elements: technique / mindset / tradition.

Stripes and belts materialize progress through the long journey to black belt and beyond. NLBJJA keeps high standards for these ranks, evaluating students on technical skill, dedication and attitude.

Students who acquire ranks at NLBJJA can be proud: they have worked hard and thoroughly deserved their promotions.
